Question Sleeping Baby

Hi Everybody! I had my first baby Sept 23, I am having a hard time getting him to sleep in his crib. He will sleep on the couch or in my bed for 3-4 hours at a time at night, when I put him down in his crib he will only sleep for about 1-1/2 hours. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? I don't have any clue what to do, I really dont want him to sleep in my bed with me but I need some sleep! He eats about every hour and a half during the day so if he gets up every hour at night that doesn't leave any time for me to function. I know that everyone of you have probably felt this way, I just need some help. Please!!!!!!! Thanks

Well, when my daughter was a newborn I did let her sleep with me & she slept great - all the time, woke up to eat & go to the bathroom, that's really all. The only thing she cried about was getting dressed - she hated it! Anyway, she never slept in the crib, but when she was about 6 months old I thought it was time to at least give it a try b/c I knew she was only going to get bigger & take up more room in the bed, plus I knew if she was used to always sleeping with us then she would never sleep alone. It worked out fine for us, she got used to sleeping in the crib - she would wake up crying once in a while & I would go in her room, pat her back & whisper to her that I was there & she was fine then she would fall back asleep. Eventually she did start sleeping all thru the night, which was awesome! That started around a year old, she's just turned 2 Oct 5th & she still sleeps in her crib all thru the night. I am thinking about setting her toddler bed up soon & giving it a try.

Good luck with your little one!!

I agree, let her sleep in bed with you. You'll both get more peaceful, lasting sleep and that's the most important thing right now.

Hi! I have a 2 1/2 month onld daughter and I have her in a bassinette next to my bed. she is thankfully sleeping through the night and has now for a couple of weeks. I got her use to a night time routine but no a daytime one. Every night around 9:00 I would give her a bath and then a bottle and then we would go to sleep. She got use to this routine and now is doing great. maybe it would help. GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS!

I agree with Bellestar. All of my kids slept in a bassinet next to my bed until they were too big for it. Then we moved to a crib. It is nice to have them near you and your child might like to just hear you breathing next to him. Sometimes all they need is a pat on the back, and a soothing voice to get them back to sleep. You can just stay in bed, reach over and pat his back a little. I KNOW how hard it is when your baby won't sleep very long, and I wish you well!

I don't blame you for not wanting the baby in bed with you. Although it wouldn't hurt once in a while, (at least you can get one good nights sleep!) I would not make a habit of it.

good luck!
Lindy
