Nursery for baby.. or crib in your room?

I am 6 weeks pregnant with my first and my partner and I have an extra bedroom that belonged to his 8 year old son (who moved out of state with the mother). I had planned on painting the room and making that into the baby nursery/room, but when I brought it up to my partner he told me "NO WAY". And that he wants to keep that room as is "in case his son moves back or visits".

So now my only option is to set up a crib in our room, and forget the idea of a nursery or baby having his/her own room. Our room is extremely small and cramped so I will only be able to fit a crib that's it.

Has anyone else had experience with this kind of thing? Do you think a baby needs it's own room, or just a crib in your room is ok? Thanks in advance!

Re: Nursery for baby.. or crib in your room?

The crib in your room is OK for the first few months. Some babies are very light sleepers tho, and parents keep disturbing them. For others, it works fine. If you have the former type, maybe the crib can be put in the second bedroom without changing anything else in there. Baby certainly won't care. Cheers, Sera
