can Sinemet CAUSE the symptoms? - Parkinson's Disease Message Board

We suspect my grandmother was wrongfully diagnosed with parkinson's twelve years ago.

We wonder if the years of taking Sinemet could have "caused" the gait since she broke her hip three years ago (now with zimmer) and frequent voiceloss? It is difficult for her to stop taking the medication. The doctors we have asked do not know the answer.

I have Parkinson and I use sinemint.The doctor told me that I could tell if
I was taking to hi of a dose.It is suppose to relax the mussel.But to
hi of a dose makes it jirk bad.We had to lower mine because it made my
head and neck jirk to the point where I was in great pain.We cut the
dose in half .Now it works fine.And the mussel in my arm quite pulling.
I don't know if this helps with your question.But it is what happen to me
and sinement.I think it is a drug that needs to be watched very closely.

My dad has Parkinsons Disease, and when first diagnosed his neurologist had him on Sinemet. He did really well with it for a few months, then he started hallucinating beyond control. We had him admitted to the Senior Care center at the hospital where a psychiatrist saw him and diagnosed him with Lewy Body Disease, saying that the drugs he takes for PD can bring out the effects of PD when it is actually Lewy Body Dementia and not PD. Does that make sense? But his neurologist still says it is PD, and I just don't know anymore. I am just trying to make him comfortable.
