I feel bad for your mum. I've read different things about PSP while researching dystonia and PD. C A co-worker lost his dad to this condition last year. His father was well into his mid-80's when he passed. He had this condition for quite a long time before it was diagnosed.
To answer the genetic possibilities, I believe the answer is yes.
There's a possibility then that I inherited mine from my grandfather. He had Parkinson's for a very long time, but was never diagnosed until after dying from a cerebral hemorrage at 75 years.
