Parkinsons??? - Parkinson's Disease Message Board

Hi all,

I have been posting on the AD board as my husband was diagnosed almost five years ago now.

Lately I have noticed he has tremers. Most noticable when eating. He has trouble getting the food from the plate to his mouth and shakes quite a bit. We have had two episodes where he all of a sudden was unable to walk. By that I mean he steps in place and doesn't go anywhere. He goes backwards and will fall if someone is not there to support him. Last night this happened again when it was time to eat. He was hallucinating and it took two of us to help him to his feel and get him to the table. When we got to the table he was having a lot of trouble sitting down. We kept saying bend your legs and sit down the chair is right there. All the while he was stepping in place.

Does this sound like Parkinsons to anyone?? I've hear that AD and Parkinsons go hand in hand.

My Father was diagnosed with PD 9 years ago.....he also had tremors...but more of the rigidity....which sounds like what you are talking about.....the body goes into what they call a FOG (freezing of gait) the brain will not let them walk and the body freezes.....my Dad takes Sinemet every 3 hrs for this and it helps ..but only works for 2 hrs out of the 3.....Please tell your husband's doctor and he may want to start him on a different medication . My father in law had PD. There is not test to diagnosis it from what we were told. Rigidity, short steps, demencia, and the tremors are all signs. There is also a rolling thing people do with their fingers, almost like rolling something between the thumb and first two fingers. Swallowing problems will usually develope in time. The symptoms may progress over many years. My father in law had signs of it in his late seventies and passed at 93. Meds can help for quite sometime to control the symptoms. Good luck, it is a very difficult disease for the patient and the care giver as well. God bless
