Re: isradipine blood pressure medication for Parkinsons
I asked my cardiologist to look at the information I had printed from "ask the doctor" page and we agreed to try it -I usually take Tenormin, a beta blocker for BP. I took it that night before bed.
The next day I woke up moving normally, not shuffling my feet, had energy to do things --I'm holding my breath that this keeps working this way. I monitor my
BP that it doesn't get higher so that if so I will also take the beta blocker. For now, I'm only taking isradipine and it's working like a miracle.
I'd love to hear from others t hat try it. Wouldn't it be great if it's this simple?
Re: isradipine blood pressure medication for Parkinsons
How much dosage of Isradipine is required for a person with PD having normal BP(135/85). Is it then necessary to increase the dosage later on or stick to it??
Re: isradipine blood pressure medication for Parkinsons
askapatient entry cited l0 mg....another article said 10 times dosage for high BP but less than taken for stroke. hard to find, time release $l.80 tO $2,50. Lowest not canada but a major drug store mail order. somewhat hard to find isradipine immediate release costs less than brand name DYNACIRC.
Im getting 5 mg to start. it has been a chore to get started. part D wont pay for DYNACIRC CR but will pay for isradipine if i can find it.
i would appreciate hearing your results taking isradipine.
insurance wont pay for NEUPRO patch at ten to twenty dollars daily,
i am paying for 44 days. half finished i dont see any effect good or bad.
Re: isradipine blood pressure medication for Parkinsons
medicare D would not pay for dynacir cr but will pay for isradipine, 5mg
$8 copay vs $50 copay for brand dynacirc. i dont know the proper dosage, taking one 5mg month now. no side effects nor improvement.
simvastatin for cholesterol is thought to help PD.
insurance approved 3 mo trial of Neupro patch about $900.
took mirapex 6 weeks and had interesting hallucinations.
seems canada is not so cheap anymore and some meds are not available.
you have to be strong to be ill, chasing down doctors, getting the right prescriptions, not taking no. i made a number of trips to finally get isradipine and neupro.

Re: isradipine blood pressure medication for Parkinsons
My Cardiologist switched me from Norvasc, a calcium channel blocker to Dynacirc CR in April starting with 5 mg two times a day. My blood pressure wasn't down as low as it should be so now I take 10 mg two times a day. Yesterday I worked out in my garden and felt that I don't even have Parkinsons. I also take Azilect, Requip, Amantadine for my PD.

My Doctor at the UW Clinic in Madison stated that iradipine has only been tried on mice. I can't seem to find any recent information on it since last June.
Re: isradipine blood pressure medication for Parkinsons
For high blood pressure, I've been using nifedipine ER, a calcium channel blocker, without effect on my PD. After reading anecdotal success comments for users of isradipine, I'm going to ask my cardiologist for a 30 day prescription so I can try isradipine.
