Pain in shoulders/swelling in hands

My Mom is 79, has symptoms of Parkinson's Disease, and is experiencing pain in her shoulders which radiates to her hands, which are swollen. She can't use her right hand anymore and has to use the left to feed herself, etc. The pain is worse upon arising. Is this related to Parkinson's?

Re: Pain in shoulders/swelling in hands

Along with having PD, I also have arthritis, so I'm not real sure which causes the pain and ache and swelling. I do know it is miserable to deal with. My doctor started me on Glucosimine 1500mg and 1000mg of Tylenol once a day. That helped some but was still bad so started taking that amount twice a day and the improvement is wonderful. Swelling in my hands has gone down and pain and ache is much better. I can even crochet again. I understand this doesn't work for everyone, but sure has helped me. Believe me, it would be worth a try. Good luck. Hope you try this! Joan
