Dad may have Parkinson's - support please!

My Dad's doctor thinks my Dad has Parkinson's. He is due to see a specialist in a little more than a month.

I am so upset, I keep crying.

I did read up a little on it but I can't bring myself to delve in any further.

This is all new to me and my family - otherwise we are all super fit and healthy.

Even my Dad...everyone comments on how healthy / youthful he is. I can't bare my Dad getting ill in any way.

As you can tell, I'm quite sensitive and emotional.

Looking for advice and support on how to deal with this worry and more importantly how to be there for my wonderful Dad.

Hi,

I know how you are feeling, about 18 months ago we went through the same thing. Like your Dad my Dad is fit and healthy and we were devasted to hear that he had Parkinsons. We are very fortunate in that for the first year Dad wasn't on any meds and he didn't deteriate much at all, since the new year Dad has started a low dose of treatment and now feels better than he has in years, he has started playing golf again, is still working full time and loves running around after the grandchildren.

Parkinsons is a scary diagnosis but the treatment options are great and after the initial shock, life will soon return to normal.

I hope this gives you hope.

okay...my name is bre and i have had the bad side effects of dealing with parkinsons. my own grandfather who i was very close to died from complications from cancer and parkinsons. during the courses of his treatments for both i didnt notice anything different about him until he was well into stage 2 going into stage 3. support for him and for yourself and the rest of your family is very pivotal. once he has his diagnosis, follows his docs orders with everything that you and your family are capable of. the strict meds are very good for it. it may take a while to get the right meds and the right doses. if you're looking for some help then check out the website that actor michael j fox has set up. he has parkinsons and has been dealing with it since he was very young in age. he has help there on the website for families to help with their families. i myself watched and took care of my grandpa until his death., it was very emotionally draining but i wouldnt trade those last few months with him for anything. i was only 17 when he passed. there are sites all over the web to help parents and children that are affected with it. ill keep you and your family in my prayers. with any luck and a few prayers you can find your way through it. best wishes
