Does Anyone Else Have Syncope (Fainting) with PD Besides Me?

I have the tremors, unsteady gait, balance issues etc. The "normal" symptoms of Parkinson's. I've been on medication for about 7 years or so.

I also have syncope (fainting when rising from a seated position) which drives me crazy. I've never read about anyone else having this issue. My neuro has checked my BP (it's controlled) and has tested it seated and standing and it's about the same. There is no "logical reason" for this.

Sometimes when I look up, I get faint as well. I'm 47 years old, female and have Rheumatoid vasculitis asthma, depression and PD. Any insight would be helpful.

Re: Does Anyone Else Have Syncope (Fainting) with PD Besides Me?

i have not yet been diagnosed with PD but am heading down this road with my many nuro problems and unsteady gait and tremors which drive me crazy,,
the reason i am replying is i to have syncope when standing or changing position even when i stretch or yawn strangely enough.. I do have a rare disease called addison's which was diagnosed in may this year, i don't know what meds you are on for the syncope but i was on 1 tablet of fludrocortisone 100 micrograms a day which has just been increased to 2 tablets now which i must say i feel alot better on still not 100% right but it has helped some-what ,, try talking to your doctor about this it may help...
all the best and hope you get some answers soon, because i must agree with you,, its such a horrible feeling to have all day especially with everything else we are going through
kind regards Cheryl

Hubby has that same sensation but does not faint, he has chronic low blood pressure, the PD meds are to blame for that.
Sorry you are both going through this, I know hubby just hates the sensation it causes, he feels like he has no control at all until it passes. Which can be 5 mins-1 hour.

No big deal, I have that all the time. I have gotten to where I take the unsteady gait to the fainting spells. Hard to drive when you are passed out. Also get lost eaisly, keep trying different pill combinations and some day I may actually feel human again.

Re: Does Anyone Else Have Syncope (Fainting) with PD Besides Me?

Hi everyone,
I'm so glad to know that I am not alone! It IS a horrible sensation and when you are working around people and have to be fairly mobile, it's just impossible. Hence, applying for the SSDI.

My neuro just looks at me like I've lost my mind. Time to change doctors I think. I even tried to show him how my knees shake and want to buckle and he tells me "he never heard of it". ????

Going to try Vanderbuilt Med Ctr and see if there are meds for it. If I haven't said so lately, I REALLY REALLY appreciate everyone's comments and nice words of encouragement. Bless you all.

Get more doctors involved. When I had my worst sessions, I would not even know what happened untill I would wake up in a hospital emergency room. I have seen a total of 5 Dr.'s now have a Neurologist at this point who's specialalty is Parkinson's...........I feel like this.

Tell him to get his head out of the sand!!
Get another doctor!

Hubby had his specialist appt last week, nothing earth shattering as expected, just waiting for a date at the movement disorder cllinic, tiny tweak of meds maybe.
It's mostly trial and error right now, finding a fine balance of meds to improve his on time and prevent the falling and fast walking, unable to stop.

Take Care, Kathy

Re: Does Anyone Else Have Syncope (Fainting) with PD Besides Me?

My husband also has these episodes when he gets up, and we were told they are not only part of Parkinson's but the medications he takes will produce this side effect!! (another case of the cure being the same or worse than the ailment)

But seriously his blood pressure gets so low that he nearly loses consciousness and I have to watch him whenever he gets up or rises. It's gotten so bad that his doctors now are going to subtract one of his BP meds from the ones he is taking (he takes a lot of meds for cardiac and cholesterol & angina)

So we are at least glad he will be taking fewer medications and maybe he will have fewer episodes of syncope/fainting spells.

Hope everyone else is finding a good answer to their own issues with this.

Did you go off another medication when they put you on Requip? I thought Requip worked to reduce that symptom (shaking) or the inner restlessness one feels. I hope if it's a side effect it goes away for you. When you wrote they "keep changing your pills" I wondered if perhaps they took you off one that was working for the shaking

I just saw your post about Syncope. My hubby has PD and syncope. the PCP are less worried about the syncope, but they do tell me to rise slowly, etc.... Now he is having hallucinations & I don't know what to do. do I agree with him or tell him it's in his mind? Well, that was off topic sorry, but thanks for listening.

H i Kap,
sorry to hear your husband is going through so much .. dont let them tell you its all in his head , cos its not true..

I have primary addisons maybe lyme too,,
I told the docors for years some thing was wrong as i kept collapssing and have sudden fall in blood pressur ,
They told me th esame just change postions slwer .. this didnt help at all..
THey just found the Addisons in time be fore i died but even befor the test they were saying its all in my head dont believe them your husband knows how his body feels and should listen to it...

Fludrocortistone is a steriod to raise the blood pressure . i wld advice you mention this to your doctors as it has helped me a great deal..

I am slightly diff as i have many nurological problems going on which yet again... They are tring to say is stress related ... just because they dont know the answers...

One thing i will say is never give up believe in yourself and fight if you have to get the right treatment .. good luck let me know how you get on please

The fludrocortistone is a steriod by the way just incase you were unsure if you have any questions please feel free to contact me .. Best of wishes and keep fighting for the right treatment xxx ozzie71
