Hallucinations

My mother has had PD for about 8 years now. For 3 or 4 years she has been hallucinating. She insists that there are two men in her bed and hasnt slept there in 2 years. She has called 911 repeatedly to get them out. Twice she has called 911 because she saw me dead on her couch.

She is on 325mg Stalevo and 1mg Requip per day. Along with her doctor, we have changed the dosages and timing of her meds and nothing seems to help.

She fractured her hip last week and for some reason the hospital and rehab do NOT have Stalevo. They have replaced it with Sinimet and Compton which they say equals Stalevo. Since she has been out of her apartment, she has not had any hallucinations.

My question is: What should I do when she talks about these hallucination people? Should I just say "Mom its just a hallucination'? When she says please help her get them out of here, should I try to talk to them and tell them to leave?

Re: Hallucinations

1) How is she getting 325mg of stalevo? This is not a standard dose. I would assume that she is taking 125mg pill + 200mg pill. This would not be advised since she would be getting 400mg comtan at a time, instead of the recommended 200mg. By replacing the stalevo with sinemet and comtan, she is now getting 200mg of comtan which might be helping her.

2) If she still has hallucinations, something like aricept might be helpful. This is an Alzheimer medicine, but it works very well for PD hallucinations.
