sleeping pills

My husband has Parkinson's and takes 1mg Ativan at night. However he still wakes up at night and thinks his bowels are going to move. I get him to the bathroom and nothing. We are both so tired from little sleep.
Is there a sleeping pill that would help him better?
Thank you Jinky

Re: sleeping pills

I have a friend who is taking ativan for depression/anxiety. She takes a straight sleeping pill at night when she feels it is necessary and was given to understand that ativan can cause sleeplessness. Could be worth checking out.

Re: sleeping pills

1mg isnt a high dose as a hypnotic.

He could ask the doctor about increasing to 2mg, or he could try another sleeping pill such as Ambien etc, or he could try adding 25mg of Benadryl to the Ativan (on doctors ok of course)

I would go back to the doctor and say that 1mg Ativan isnt cutting it, and see what he suggests.

Re: sleeping pills

Right, Ativan is one of the least sedating medications for that reason it's often prescribed for daytime anxiety.
