Unhappy Got some bad news today .........

My neurologist has "given up" and sent me to a MDS.

That's good news, I guess.

The bad news is that he suspects "striatal nigra degeneration" - which he says is basically untreatable Parkinson's Disease.

The MDS is in a large University research hospital, about 3 1/2 hours round trip.

Really not looking forward to it, at all.

10 months of Requip - Mirapex and Sinemet. Nothing. A big waste of time and money.......

Cool

Hi Mike,

Isn't that a kick, at first you don't want PD, then you wish it was only PD LOL. But see a movement disorder specialist. They know what they are doing and he/she may just say it's Parkinson's. They are more familiar with all the little nuances of the disease. And if it's something worse, he'll/she'll know how to treat you. There are so many good and new things coming up in the PD world, I don't think I'd say it was "untreatable" or give up just yet.

Please keep us informed.

Mike, some doctors just have no tact. How dare he say something like that to a patient. Hey Mike, you can do it!!! It's your body and your life, and darn it, don't let any doctor tell you not to live your life to the fullest.

A long time ago, when my grandmother was about 35 years old, she was told by a doctor that she had a condition where she could just drop dead at any time. Well, several years later, she attended the funeral of the doctor who told her that.

I'm not trying to be morbid. Just making a point. She lived to be 83. Remember, no matter what anyone says to you, even if you are having hard times, LIVE your life. Have faith. I will pray for you too.

Sincerely,
Caring
