Has anyone had complications with Deep Brain Stimulation? Specifically, confusion and hallucinations? It's been 7 months since my husband's surgery. He had seizures the night of his surgery and spent 60 days in the hospital. I have wondered if something went wrong in surgery. Now I've been told he had Lewy Bodies Disease. I feel someone is jerking my chain. Any and all info would be appreciated.

I am new to all of this. We just started helping my husbands uncle with his PD. He has a lot of confusion and hallucinations. He has not had surgery for the disease. Read my other post and I give some examples of what he has been doing. See if it sounds similar to what your husband has been doing.

I have forwarded your post to people who have had the DBS.I will try to tell you what is said when I get a reply. Your husband must have had lewy body disease before the DBS, many PLWP do. Hang in there !

I have had the DBS/STN surgery and, while i had the small complication of some bleeding around the probe on my first one, the effects of that went away in about 3 weeks, just like the doctor said it would.The main thing was, I forgot how to type and while i knew what i wanted to say, i just couldn't get the words out. But as I said, that cleared up in a matter of weeks.(I had the surgery about 2 years ago). I don't know i lewy body disease makes any difference in whether the surgery takes effect or not but i think your husband has some other problems. Did they do a brain scan to see if the probe was in the right place?

It's been a confusing ordeal. Yes, the DBS helped my husband's PD tremedously. Now the Lewy Body diagnosis is questionable. He had seizures the night of his surgery. Possibly the medication he has been taking is causing side effects. His medication is being reduced over 8 weeks. While there is a 50/50% chance of a seizure, it seems to be worth the risk. The confusion and hallucinations have lessened. He will have to take seizure medication for a while because of consistent abnormal eeg readings. I hope his 60 day hospital ordeal and six months of recovering at home was all due to the wrong medication! I appreciate your input. Thanks, Pudge
