Pain with Parkinsons - Normal?? - Parkinson's Disease Message Board

Hi - I am writing this on behalf of my mum who is new to the internet.

Dad has had Parkinsons for 14 years and the pain he experiences is terrible. That is the wierd thing despite all the differnt treatments and medicines (there has been many) he always gets this pain back.

Mum is now Dad's 24 hr carer and rarly leaves the bubble of our home - I am hoping that this Portal to the outside world will offer her some support and guideance in her times of need. Talking to people on similar situations will help as there is often no one to talk to when I am not home.

Dads pain is the real issue - Does anyone else out there experience this pain in the legs??? It has led us to beleive that there MUST be something else aside from Parkinsons that hitting him.

Although the Sinemet does numb the pain a little and therefore the specialist think its purely a PD thing.

Please can anyone with similar experience get in touch (reply post or [email removed]would be great in case mum doesnt make it back here!!!)

Hopefully we can make the PD work seem a little smaller via the net

Laura and Luke,

Yes it is common for pain in the legs.Bill has this.I have N/A three hrs per day,she massages his legs.She said it is like knots in the muscles.She also does light exercises with him.

Yes, it is common to have pain in the legs, especially after as long as 14 years. I have had the DBS surgery, but I always know when my medication is due by the way my legs feel, even now.

My father has Parkinson's Disease and also experiences pain. The majority of his pain occurs in his neck and upper back. He recently went to a massage therapist who was able to help him greatly with the pain. The massage does not get rid of the Parkinson's symptoms but did provide him with relief from the pain. The pain didn't return for almost a week and a half. He is going back again this week for another appointment. Your mother may also want to try seeing a massage therapist for her pain. It really does help. There is also quite a bit of information on the Web about benefits of massage for Parkinson's patients. I just typed in Massage for Parkinson's Disease and came accross quite a few interesting articles. I hope this helps!
