Tremors at 16

I started to get tremors in my hands and voice at the at 16, I'm now 36 and and every year it seems to get worse. I'm also find myself tripping up while walking at least 3 times a day. I've been told I have essential tremors but I thought that it only effected older people. By the time I'm 50 I'm afraid that I won't be able to talk or hold on to anything. Could this be something other then essential tremors and why has it effected me at such a young age.
