Post POT and Personality Disorders

I don't know how many of you are familliar with marijuana and it's long term effects after heavy use but I'm hoping for some explanation for what has happened to me. I have been smoking pot for about 5 years and I've been smoking heavily (more than once a day) for the last year or so. I have recently stopped and I feel like the last couple of years have been a complete blur. I also feel that I have completely lost my personality. I used to have a great personality, lots of friends and I did not have a hard time conversing with people. Now I really struggle when it comes to talking to people, even those who I have been friends with before I was smoking. I feel like everyone looks down on me now when in the past I used to be the one people would come to just to talk to and they looked up to me. I used to be easy to talk to and I had a lot to say. I now have lost all confidence in my social skills and I feel like I can't remember what I was doing right to be the intellectual that I was. I also feel like I'm not half as bright as I used to be. I really feel stupid. I have heard that pot doesn't kill brain cells but actually causes changes in the brain's chemistry so once the drug is out of your system the brain changes back. Is this true?!? I am hoping that someone has experienced similar effects from smoking and I am hoping I will regain the intelligence and intellectual skills that I have lost by quitting. Any advice will help me out.

I don't know much about pot, but I am pretty sure it doesn't actually cause a personality disorder. Doesn't drug use cause people to withdrawn from people anyway? I think if you would like info on the effects of drugs, you may want to try posting on the "Addiction and Recovery" message board. They would probally be able to help you there. Sorry I couldn't help.
Good luck to you.

That it is, a feeling, something that can come and go. Personality being a reflection of ones self, when you say it has been lost, it is very much there.

If anything believe in yourself, you weren't doing anything to be, you were being.

I don't believe it does, I think it could be more of a mental block, not from pot, but belief.

I've had my experience and have learned from it all, it may not be similar. Have you neglected that intellectual skill during your use and put off on exercising your intelligence? If you believe you have become stupid, you have. If you believe you are intelligent and intellectual, you may very well be. Believe and act upon this belief. However things may workout for you, good luck.

Some may say so, and some may not. In many cases it could depend on the use, and nature of so, this being a case by case basis. As with anything, it could cause someone to lose their goals, ect, or it could enhance and provide stimulus, in turn, motivating them even more.

Re: POT and Personality Disorders

I know exactly how you feel. I started smoking pot 3 yrs ago and just quit last month. Mostly it was every day, but took maybe 2 weeks off every now and then. I also feel like it completely took away my fun, carefree personality and made me into this person who is always second-guessing myself. I loved how smoking shifted my thinking, perspective, and mood, but once I started doing it everyday, that's when i lost all sense of who I truly was.

Pot is a depressant and while it may not kill brain cells, it kills the energy that you have for life!!! I am sooo done with it (I hope i can be strong enough to follow through on quitting, cuz i really think i became mentally addicted to it). For me, smoking was an act of escapism. When I felt ****** or overwhelmed, I smoked. Sometimes with people, but mostly by myself. In fact, one whole semester when my boyfriend wasn't going to the same school as me, all I did every day was go to class and come home and hang out by myself and smoke all the time.... Not healthy!!!

Anyway sorry to rant about my personal history, but I really just want to let people know that pot can be awesome as an occasional recreational drug, probably like once a month.
