Zoloft, paxil and prozac are approved for social anxiety. Then, there is lexapro, effexor, and many other types of ad's that can help. Your doctor will have to help you make that decision. Good luck.

Re: What medicines treat Agoraphobia & Social Anxiety ?

From personal experience I wouldn't rely on Prozac. This is the most commonest medication prescribed over here (Im in UK) for Depression, OCD and sometimes Anxiety. I know a lot of people who have been on this and they didn't notice any improvement.

If you find out any information about Agorophobia, let me know. I have this too and its making my life hell. I'm finally (slowly) getting the courage to see someone about it but everything else about it, I dont understand. Take care.

Re: What medicines treat Agoraphobia & Social Anxiety ?

lots of info on agoraphobia on the net
simply type agoraphobia into a search engine

best meds are valium and an antidepressant, can take several attempts to find an antidepressant that works for you and can be lived with
very low starting doses help and be prepared to accept some discomfort fot the first 2 weeks or so
valium as needed helps everyone but sadly can be hard to get

any valium type med, taken in a large enough dose as needed, helps everyone from day 1, these meds are the first choice of several psychiatrists who specialise in your problems

Zoloft has been working wonders for me. I also have a prescription for xanax as needed. Maybe you can talk to your dr about finding the right medicine for you.. and sometimes it may take going through a couple different ones before finding it.

Take Care

Re: What medicines treat Agoraphobia & Social Anxiety ?

Prozac worked to curb my anxiety-related stomach aches, however, it seemed to have stop working even though I upped the dosage finally up to 40 mg. I'm starting Lexapro right now so I'll post my thoughts a week or two from now. Also, meds alone is not the answer, easier said then done, but therapy is there for a reason.
