I felt compelled to write a different thread for this subject as it seems to be the focal thing that is worsening my condition.
I have lost at least 18lbs in a few weeks. I was not very big to begin with so it has hit me hard. This has happened purely through very little eating mostly due to severe nausea. The word "Food" makes me feel sick. I started all this problem months ago with swallowing problems of which made me very scared to attempt anything other than sloppy foods. This progressed into eating the odd bit of porridge and maybe a bit of thin soup now and again. Eating actually makes me feel sicker. I am now on drink suppliments as its got to the stage where I darent attempt anything. Has anyone else got fixated on not trying because they are a) scared of the reaction it will have with nausea etc and b) because they feel they may choke. I am wondering if this is turning into a psychological problem that i should be asking help for. If so...who?? I have no firm diagnosis yet as waiting endoscopy. I am just being given Prevacid for Acid reflux which is not helping at all though its early days. In fact after I have taken my prevacid I feel decidely worse for a while with more nausea etc. All it seems to do is make me burp which I can do enough of without it.
In fact I think I could burp for the UK and win! I need to eat. Sense tells me I need to eat,. My body is telling me I need to eat but the thought turns my stomach...literally! I would appreciate anyones views on this.
many thanks
I'm taking Protonix which makes me feel nauseated more than the Aciphex which I took at first. I did skip a few days inbetween changing medications and did not feel nauseated, which tempted me to skip the medications altogether but decided to wait until I see the specialist. I was given medication for nausea so if food makes it really bad I can take that and then hopefully still be able to eat. It seems like if I eat too much at once that causes more nausea. I'm just trying to eat soft foods but more different foods than just hot cerael and soup. My initial doctor thought I might have an ulcer from long term use of medication so foods that are softer seem better if that's the cause. I'm not sure I even have Gerd. When I first wake up in the morning my stomach feels almost normal until I take the PPI pill. It's frustrating. See if you can get some nausea medication so you can eat more.
Thanks for that. I will. Do you think it will be ok on top of PPI and valium and remgel and the odd paracetamol????
The list is getting bigger. I have decided to drink chamomile tea from tomorrow. Relaxing if nothing else. Run out of ensure until later in week so I will be relying on thin stews/soups and cereal until then methinks
thanks for your input.
Your welcome. I hope you can eat something so you don't get so weak and then it causes other nutritional problems. I'm not sure about the combination of medications you take but ask the doctor. You should be able to take something for nausea. You can ask about a transderm patch that works for 3 days at a time. I've used those for airplane flights and boat rides to battle the nausea.
