Denta-phobia!

He all,

I take 0.5mg of Clonazepam for a sleeping problem but was told by my doctor that I can take up to 2mg if needed (I never have).

I have some serious dental work coming up that is scaring the blank out of me (very painful procedure)! To top it off I'm already deathly afraid of the dentist, so much so that I actually tried to bite my last one!

Will clonazepam work to calm me down so I'm not such a lunatic?! I'm thinking of taking 2mg but don't want any surprises (I'm also phobic of pills, lucky me).

Thanks!

Re: Denta-phobia!

I can relate because I have to go to a denistry SCHOOL for a checkup since I have NO INSURANCE. I am terrified and I am going to take the ativan beforehand. I am dreading all the work I will need to have done which I KNOW is a ton. My teeth are in pain and chipped and some fillings are messed up. ugh.

Re: Denta-phobia!

I am EXACTLY like you!! but i work myself up for weeks till my appointment just for a check up....it got so bad that i all i did was obsess about going that i avoided it luckily i didn't have too many problems....first thing i did was find a good dentist...he almost makes my fear into a joke but doesn't mock me and understands completely!! my 2nd fear is the freezing. I have had 5 plus cavities done with NO novocaine and despite what one may think it isn't bad at all but thats just fillings 3rd i too am a pill freak, scared to try something that i may have a reaction too...until i found ativan! i have tried ativan, xanax and the one you take and by far ativan has helped the best with the dentist! i take 2.5 mg when i go but wouldn't take that much for anything else other than my visits. You can try yours if it works for you and 2 mg is fine...if i were you i would take something just to help ease the situation, also don't forget to tell them what you have taken and good luck, it is never as bad as we think it is going to be!

Re: Denta-phobia!

Thanks guys!

Thankfully i have a good dentist who is well aware of my phobia. i shake uncontrollably even for a cleaning and i'm sometimes crying too. This procedure i have coming up requires needles in my gumline above my 2 front teeth and needles in the roof of my mouth. i have had them before and DO NOT want them again. i've stepped on a rusty nail before that went straight through my foot and that was not as bad as these needles! oh lord...
Thank modern medicine for downers!
