Question Allergy phobia and/or panic disorder?

Maybe someone can help me. Over the years, I have become allergic to shellfish and several antibiotics and pain relievers. I have handled it well and just stay away from them. Recently, I have become overwelmed with chest pain because of GERD(gastrol reflux disease) and have not been able to take meds given to me by the doctor. I have this feeling of an allergic reaction when I take the meds. My mouth gets dry, it becomes hard to swallow. I think it is in my head because I start to feel hyperventalated and anxious about even taking tums. I can not go out to eat in a restaurant that serves seafood because then the smell of shrimp nauseates me and I can not enjoy my food. Help, am I crazy. I am constantly depressed and anxious. I am afraid to take any medication. ( My husband is always out of town and I care for our 3 year old.) I am at my wits end.

Sounds like you have a phobia of meds and pills.

I can understand that as a bad med mix ended me up in Er.

I had to fight through it and start taking my meds (other ones) safe combo, and I am starting to get better.

I have three children, I know how you feel.

How bad are your symptoms, are you agrophobic, are you having panic attacks, and if you are how many?

Thank you for answering me. I am not agoraphobic in the since that most people are but, I am becoming more and more unable to eat. I am becoming paranoid about all medications and many food. My favorite food is regular fish and I can not enjoy it because I am afraid of becoming allergic to it. I also am afraid of food cross contamination in restaurants as well as fried foods becasue of shrimp allergies. I get panic attacks frequently , almost everyday for the last 2 week. I know I can eat these foods and take these meds, but as soon as I do I flip out.

does the medicine xanax actually eliminate the panic attacks or lesson them or what. I have a prescription but havent taken one yet. I am scared to experience another panic attack after I take it.

Having a panic attack after a Xanax is very unlikely. A lot of people take this med during the onset of an attack to prevent it. In other words, they take their Xanax only when they feel they need it. You could do that instead of taking it everyday.

I absolutely agree about the xanax, dont be scared to take it, it is specifically for calming you when you are frantic. Thats what it will do.

Xanax is the only thing that ever worked to take my panic attacks away.
Like Janik said, it's not likely to give you an attack or make it worse.
