I have an unbelievably big and emotionally draining fear of ants in my house. Outside they are fine. I dont even have a problem spraying raid all over the ants in my home, but when I see more than one ant at a time in my kitchen or living room, I completely loose it and all sense of reality are completely lost and something else takes over in me and I cant grasp reality.
What should I do? I seriously can not take it when I see these ants. I cant sit still, I cant even lie in my bed, I feel like things are crawling on me and I keep on scratching and flicking off my body even though i know that there is nothing there.
Please, can anyone give me an idea of what I should do for this? When it happens, it is 100% debilitating.
Hi there, and sorry you did not get a quick response. I hope I can help.
While you call your phobia crazy, phobias are very real to the sufferers, as you know. When they become enough to interfere with your life, it is time to seek some help, which is your first great sign. Acknowledging the phobia and being open to treatment will go a long way towards your eventual recovery.
Specialists will use several techniques to help you overcome your fears, and one is exposure therapy. This entails you having very small exposure to the ants in a controlled environment. Gradually you will be able to lessen your anxiety about the ants, once you realize they cannot really hurt you. Most will use a combination of this type of therapy and talk therapy to help you understand and overcome your fear.
Another home remedy I would encourage you to do is to lessen the chance of ants even coming near your home in the first place. You can have regular spraying and poisoning of ants if you are ok with that type of thing, and are free of pets and children that might get into them. Of course keeping free of crumbs and food sources for the ants is also necessary. Having a professional out to the house to determine where the ants are coming from will help too.
I would definitely let your doctor know on your next visit, he or she would be the first to help direct you in the right direction.
I personally have a fear of grasshoppers so i totally know what you are talking about when it comes to the lil buggers getting in your house. I don't know any other way of dealing with grasshoppers in the home unless i throw a shoe at it and throw tissue paper over it so that when someone gets home they can deal with the thing.
As for ants though, I have a great thing that can help (as long as you don't have pets and if you do keep a good eye on them so they don't get into this...) Its okay to have fears, but may bring you peace once you have done this.
Whenever I have ants in my house I like to mix Borax (laundry detergent) with icing sugar, add enough water so it becomes like a paste. set it on a lid of some sorts ( margarine container lid (Something that an ant can fairly easily climb onto) or if you dont have something like that you are willing to have the ants crawl on use a food wrapper (the sweeter the better) for ex. a popsicle wrapper. Put the paste in this and set it near where you have seen the ants coming from or going to ( where there is one there are more) they will pick it up and carry it back to its colony (will feed the queen and within a few days you shouldn't see ants at all (they will have all died! yay!!)
Hopefully with knowing that it can help control your mind cuz you know where they will be heading to and it may get to a point where you see a whole line of ants but thats perfect the more of them carrying it the faster it will kill everything off... plus you will then have a better chance of knowing exactly where they are coming from
have you try'd the way of increasing your courage by just 1% each day and over time it really helps as long as you grow it every day it will multiply many times over a period of time this was taken from Tony Robbins I'am going to try it myself I have a fear of people, and what if it don't work at least you try'd something.
