What tests for pituitary function?

In relation to proper thyroid function, what pituitary blood studies would need to be done, aside from TSH, to see if the pituitary is functioning properly? Is there any relationship between FSH and thyroid?

Re: What tests for pituitary function?

To see if your pituitary is working, you [I]should[I] register a TSH level in relation to your t4. That is, if your t4 is in range, your TSH [I]should[I] be in range. If your t4 is high, your TSH [I]should[I] be low, and vice versa. A nonfunctioning pituitary would register as a really low TSH in the face of normal or high t4. Your other pit. hormones would show low also, such as a low FSH(which would raise a red flag in the face of menopause!). There are quite a few different things to look at for over all pit. function.

Re: What tests for pituitary function?

Let me correct myself(I should not try and think at 9 p.m.!). In hypopit. your TSH would be really low along with a low t4.
