My name is Cindy and I have had polio since I was 3 1/2 months old. I came down with it in 1954. I spent my first birthday, first Easter and first Christmas in a hospital. Have been in a w/c all my life. Have had many operations, starting with 2 spinal fusions due to curvature of my spine. My last surgery was on my left foot. When I stood up I would stand on the outer side of my foot. The drs fused my ankle. I had to have a transesphogeal echo done just last week and my heart is working like 60%.
Seems like the older I get the more rundown I feel. I am on a bipap machine at night and oxygen. Hope y'all have a Blessed evening. Now I dont feel as alone as I did.
Hi my name is Janet, so happy you have posted. Not happy to hear about your problems. My understanding is that people that once had polio after years of use are coming down not with the polio virus but post polio syndrome. This is do to used up motor neurons. Take care of yourself and try and pace yourself as much as you can.
