Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

Have not heard from you, hoping you are ok? Are you getting some of this awful weather??? It surely has been crazy - the roller coaster affect has alot to do also with our pain..

Drop of line if you are feeling up to it.
Hugs Janet

Re: Cheryl

hi janet...thank you for being concerned about me,just been so drained when i get off work, and in the morning before work,i'm always looking for web links to anything about post-polio,hoping to come across a doctor somewhere close by...think i may have one or two doctors now, listed under post-polio health professionals, from one of the many web sites i've been in,and i'm going to call in the morning to find out...i am in pain every day anymore it seems,my left leg, left hip, left foot, and even left buttock, and also in my left inner thigh area some days...seems the more tired my leg is,the more i feel it in other areas...i dont sleep well at nites,i sleep in 3-4 hour increments, been like that for several years, but is getting to me more now i think,i sleep on one side for a bit, then got to change to other side, sleep for a bit, then got to change side or lay on back,so it seems like i'm always adjusting to get comfortable, and i wake up every time i move too...then my mind dont shut off in between all this...i dont wake up in the morning exhausted, because i go to bed so early at nite 6-7pm to allow for all the times i wake up in the nite...and i used to think it was cuz i got up at 4am is why i'd fall alseep so early too,but now i question that...see i've always made excuses or some kinda reason for everything,so now i find out about this PPS,so what i did not take as "symptoms" before,i find out are "symptoms"...friday is my birthday and i had planned on starting vacation then, but got talked into working friday now,so come saturday i'll be on vacation and am really looking forward to some rest and see how i feel in that week off also too...am going down to my parents place in the country for that weekend,to get away, and someone wait on me for a change...my mom told me she has a cousin who had polio and she had heard that his polio had come back, and he was on crutches she thought, and i told her thats pretty much how it is,the polio is coming back around to "us"...when i saw that Post-Polio Letter in dr. bruno's website, the one with Mia Farrow, showed a little girl in braces, then an older woman with a cane,i thought, wowww, that looks like me exactly...i dont like to take pills,so i'm enduring this pain, but when i get home from work,i'm done for...when i take a pain pill, that means i can no longer tolerate the pain...i dont have a prescription for pain pills, just some i had left over from my last foot surgery and most times forget i have them,as i am not used to taking pills for pain, other than from surgery...well i hope you're doing well janet, and i'll let you know what i find out when i call this doctor in the morning...cheryl

Re: Cheryl

hello janet. cheryl, and everyone out there who are all in this polio predicament... i haven't been on this board for a while now, but have been reading all the different issues that we all are experiencing....

i myself have been thru a lot of pain, in my knee and back and thighs....
i saw two specialists.... one wanted to do surgery on my good knee...( the one that is now soooo tired of carrying me....) i am quite hesitant to do surgery so i went and saught another opinion.....he gave me a cortisone shot in my knee, and it has relieved quite a bit of the unexplainable pain... he also got me started on meloxicam...so far, this is the only anti-inflammatory that has given me relief....maybe some of you that have not tried this medicine, can ask your doctor to prescribe it to you.....

i do a lot of stretching as much as i can, and that also helps....

let us all keep trying to stay positive and enjoy the simple things in life... being in pain and not being able to do everything we used to do can be so depressing....but at least we are alive, and can still smell the fragrance of flowers, the freshness of the morning breeze and experience the love and support of our loved ones... we have much to be thankful for.....

hope this brings a little sunshine to all.....

veronica
