I am new to this board and hope that starting a new Post is acceptable. I have searched for information on doctors in Dallas/Ft worth (prefer Dallas or east) and not found any. Does anyone have information which might help me.
I had Polio in 1949 and spent at least 2 months in the Hospital could have been a little longer I was young and today I'm old and forget more then I remember. I am experiencing phantom pain in my right hand. I can not be sure that it is related to Polio as I have had an addtional injury in 1977 to the radial nerve, but I figure if I'm going to see a doctor someone with PPS experience should be more knowledgeable.
I have read some of the posts and see many comments about use it or lose it. Well I have done just that and at 64 and counting I wonder what the future holds.
Hey Craig! Welcome. I finally found someone who is older than myself. I'm having the big 60 in July. Sorry I can't help you with a PPS Dr. in your area. I haven't found one for myself yet. I live in a little hick town in Tn. How were you affected? Use it or lose it was how I was brought up to believe but now with all our problems, using it is what causes you to lose it. My upper body strength is almost lost and that is from lifting my body weight all these years. Janet can testify to that. Anyway get to chatting and tell us a little more about yourself. Everyone have a great day! Orthopedic appt. for me today. Later, Phyllis
Welcome Craig, I am not sure about a Dr. in TX. - it is so difficult to find one they are limited- if you have a reg. dr. maybe he/she can help you find a doctor... You may want to start with a Physiatrist(Muscletal.skeletal)specialis t and if you find one make sure they Know Polio and Post Polio - the one I originally went to did not - and told me I know more about Polio/PPS then he did.
Craig and all- I also saw Dr. Bruno - he is located in NJ- Wehave a new saying "Conserve to Preserve- the use it or lose it obvisously put its toll on us Polio Survivors///
I have lost more in the last year and now I am going to make my next challenge and go into a Power Chair- I have come to the conclusion, if this is going to give me more energy so I can go shopping and not be down for 2 days, I am all for it... Maybe even be able to do something fun...
Best to you Hugs- Janet
By the way I am 52, had Polio when I was 4.. I now am in braces and crutches and should be getting a PC this week.
