Hi everybody,
I have just joined the site. My name is Chris I am 37 and have been trying to concieve for 17 years i have been diagnosed with pcos for 9 years now. I am very overweight which means that my fertility specialist will not treat me, he says i am to overweight to do anything for me. My periods are about once or twice a year. I tried Comid amd Metformin none of them worked for me. At the moment i am trying to control the weight which is a struggle. I have just started the GI diet so hopefully that will work.
I get so frustrated with the medical profession they have no idea how hard it is to control the weight. I went to see my specialist and he told me to go away and not to go back until i lost 7 stone yes 7 stone. I would be happy to lose one. He told me that even though i was eating less than a thousand calories a day and going to the gym 4 times a week i still was eating to much and not doing enough. I went to my doctor last week after bleeding for 3months with only 6 days off. She did the same thing she made me feel like a liar. No wonder people get eating disorders. Anyway I would like to know if there is anyone who has had success with the GI diet and any tips will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Chris! My name is Mandie! I am 27 years old and after reading your post I am thinking I would try to find another doctor. I was just diagnosed with the PCOS on 04/24/07 after having a D&C and scopy of my uterus done. Having that final procedure done confirmed it to us. However, I had seen two or three doctors before this one and they all just told me to give it sometime cause i was on the birth control pill for so long. This doctor didn't only find that I had PCOS but my insulin is high which he said was common in women who have PCOS. I also have to lose weight. Ideally about 130 pounds but I am working on the first 65 pounds first. I have found that having a buddy to lose weight is good moviation. My doctor put me on a 1600 calorie deit and I am going to do water aerobics 3 times a week to start out and maybe a evening walk with my husband and dogs the other days. I hope some of this information has helped. If you need someone to vent too I am here!

Re: New Member

Chris,

I to have pcos and have gained around three stone on 2yrs and went from a uk size 10-12 to a 16! i eat healthy and excercised allmost 5times per week until i lost all hope.Im in the lucky position where im recieving iui as im not over bmi of 35.. yet however shortly i am on the list for icsi and am worried i will be too heavy when i get to the top. I have heard of metaformin ect however nothing you havnt tried,I would suggest getting a new doctor as he/she is offering no solution to your problem therfore is no good to you remember they work for you and are not indespensible, something must be able to be done.if they want you to loose 7stones then your health is at risk not just your chance for a baby. They should take it more seriously!!!!!
I will try to find some more info(as i used to work in a pharmacy and still have some conatcts) re pcos and treatment as there must be something that can be done.

Till then take care x

Re: New Member

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. I have since had tests on my thyroid, blood pressure and cholesterol and i have the all clear on all of them. I have been refered to a weight control councilor who i see next week. I have also got an appointment with a gyn on the 6th July. My guy was a fertility specialist and was really not interested in treating me at all. I had to go on northisterone to stop my bleeding that i had for 3 months with only 6 days clear, that is what got me the appointment with the gyn. So i just have to wait and see what happens next.
