Post Newbie to site and PCOS...

Well I just turned 23 last month and just got married in Dec. 07. I have always been overweight and had missed periods so I went to the doc. and was diagnosed with PCOS(last month). She gave me Provera to jump start my cycle, metaphormin for my insulin which is @ 17(borderline problem), and I just started YAZ(bc) yesterday. Me and my husband want to have children but I would really like to loose weight first. I am currently @ about 278 which is the heaviest I've ever been.

Before I started dating my now husband I finally said "I AM GOIN TO LOOSE WEIGHT!" so I went to this doc. and got on a weight lose program(counting calories). When I started it I was about 255...within 3-4 months I lost 40-45 lbs. I was about 214. But then I started dating gained all but 1 pound back right before I got married....was @ about 254 and now after 6 months of marriage I'm @ 278! So depressing! But I started that same diet back and I am goin to try my best to loose this weight! I am taking Phendimetrazine for weightloss program...If anyone has any suggestions, comments, encouragements, anything! I would love to hear them!

Re: Newbie to site and PCOS...

Hi! (name?)

I am new to this site, too, and it's apparent not many people respond to newbie posts! But, anyways, welcome to the site!

I understand what you're feeling and going through. In order to understand my situation and "issues" a little better, check out my post in this same forum with the title, "Newbie! (tad long, my apologies)" ...

Anyways, as you will find out, I was diagnosed with PCOS last Summer, 2006. I was put on Metformin but after being diagnosed with Diabetes almost 3 months ago, they changed my medication to Januvia and put me on Fortamet, which is the extended-release form of Metformin. (I was always sick on regular Metformin) Anyways, I tried Clomid 2 rounds and failed, but we were also dealing with MFI because of my husband's motility. Anyways, you will read about all of that if you check out my post.

This "disease/disorder/syndrome" is pure hell, from what I've known of it since I was diagnosed. I was ALWAYS petite/skinny, in shape and athletic (dance, cheer, gymnastics) until I became bulimic/anorexic at 17. After seeking help a couple years ago, I slowly gained weight & continued to gain. I've never been regular with my cycles, and am trying to lose all of this gained weight the *right* way! If you'd like, we can be PCOS/Weight Loss buddies as I could use one who really understands what I am also going through. Everyone will tell you that it's possible to conceive with PCOS, etc, and you can, but it's extremely difficult for many people. (from what I've gathered)

The diet pill you're taking, is it prescribed? A friend of mine was prescribed "Phentermine" and my PCP offered me a prescribed diet pill as well where I would be closely monitored but I wanted to try it with watching portion sizes, exercise, etc first! I'm sure my post hasn't helped you much but I will tell you - it's possible to conceive, PCOS doesn't rule your life, and you will lose the weight as long as you stay motivated & dedicated to it!

Kris

Re: Newbie to site and PCOS...

Sure....I could use a PCOS weightloss buddy too! That med. that I take is prescibed by a doc. and I actually took Phentermine when I had first started the diet...but for some reason it quick working...don't know if my body got used to it or what. But then he prescribed this other and it seems to be working...NOW... it didn't at first.
