Re: PCOS or no?
It sounds to me like you do have PCOS. It is not abnormal for a doctor not to do an exam. There is no definitive test to diagnose PCOS. Therefore, it is your history that means the most to the doctor. Provera is totally normal to bring on a period. Some people have a harder time taking it - as it seems you do, but its just a temporary thing. Hang in there! Blood tests can tell a lot about what is going on with you and is a normal step to rule out other things. Sometimes, if your blood comes back normal, PCOS is the only thing left that makes sense, so it is then diagnosed.
In terms of the cysts, you should know that not all people with PCOS have ovarian cysts. Our ovaries have a tendency to grow too many follicles, which can look like cysts sometimes on an ultrasound, so we always have some level of cysts. Some women do get periodic large cysts though. Some are functional, and disappear on their own, and some are not and have to be removed.
I think that you should have the ability to speak to your doctor comfortably about your feelings and about PCOS. But, in my opinion, I don't think your doctor did anything wrong, from the way you describe it. If you guys are not communicating well or she makes you unhappy or uncomfortable, thats a different story. You should feel comfortable with your doctor no matter what.
I hope that things work out for you and that this helped you some. Good luck to you!
