Post Pregnancy with PCOS?

Hello
I am very curious...
Does anyone know what the chances of getting pregnant are if you have PCOS and do not take medication? I was recently diagnosed and my Dr. pretty much told me it would be almost impossible for me to get pregnant without "some help." I am scheduled for bloodwork to determine which medications are needed.
Thanks!

That is a very difficult question. It depends on your age, regular or irregular cycles, other conditions. It will be more difficult if you don't have regular cycles and you will need help. However, others in my family have become pregnant with PCOS. It just took them several years of trying from as little as three to as many as 11. Your doctor will be the best person to answer your questions because s/he will know the specifics.

Good Luck! and if you need baby dust, there is an unlimited supply here!

Mindy

I have PCOS and as far as I know, I have always had it (since puberty anyway). I have conceived naturally 3 times, with 1 sucessful birth. While taking fertility meds I didn't conceive at all during the 10 months of trying with them.

Here is some information that may be helpful to you and anyone else:

PCOS is not caused by the ovaries but it is caused by your Pancreas and its inability to process insulin. Changing your diet can help increase your chances of fertility. My doctor recently put me on a diabetic diet and I have almost completely eliminated sugar from my diet and also reduced carbs. My doc will then do a Cycle day 2 u/s to see how my ovaries look when I am on the diabetic diet. Hopefully it will work since I am through with fertility meds.

Best of luck to you. There is an abundance of information regarding PCOS on the net.

Amy

Thanks for the information!
I have been learning so much lately through all of you and different websites that I feel like a walking textbook. LOL
It just seems like I have a long road ahead of me! So if no one minds... I'll be hanging around here. Hopefully, at some point I'll be able to give some of you advice and/or information.
Take care everyone!

goodtimes,

Welcome to the board, we are happy to have you "hang around." I am a fellow "PCOS"er. My RE will not give me odds either. He has told me bascially that my chances of getting pg with clomid and IUI is 16%, my chances with injectibles and IUI is 22%, chances with IVF (at least his claimed success rate) is 75% on first try. I am doing injectibles with timed intercourse, which he claims is a 18% chance of success. But there are so many factors, including DH sperm count, how many follicules develop, etc. I am hoping my odds are a little better. I was also put on a diabetic diet for PCOS, but I stink at it. All I do now is stay away from bread and pasta, but I will still have a piece of cake every once in awhile
