Post Any other PCOSers taking Metformin?

Hi

My question is this, on Friday I increased the Metformin to 500mg 3x a day. Since I've increased the dosage I've been feeling a flutter in my heart. It's not constant but it has happened a few times. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this a normal side effect? If it has happened to someone else does it go away after your body gets used to the higher dose?

My RE says the Metformin helps women with PCOS to both get pregnant and helps them to carry the baby to term. I'd hate to stop if it is something that will go away.

Thanks in advance

I also take the same dosage as you, unfortunately, i have not had the same problem with the heart-fluttering. I think with this medication, as I have noticed, things go away in time. For example, when I first starting taking the pills, I had MAJOR stomach problems, but now that has totally disappeared. I guess my body just got used to it.
Hopefully, that will go away too. You should probably ask your doctor, if it continues.
Best of luck!!!

Thanks Pam

VERY good to know the stomach thing will eventually go away (I understand ) Do you remember how long that took???

Can I ask you a few more questions? How long have you been taking Metformin? Are you taking it for the PCOS or do you have type 2 diabetes?

I have been taking it for about 6 months. It seems like I could finally "handle" the entire dose without any problems after about a month! I know that is a while, but it comes and goes. I would try it at different times of the day. I fianlly settled on one pill in the morning and two at night (dinnertime).
I do have PCOS, so that is originally why I was prescribed the medication. After a recent Laporoscopy, it was revealed that I also had some endo.! So, I have that to contend with, too.
Hope this helps!!
Pam

I started taking Metformin from about 50 days , I have pcos and secondary amenorrhea (no period from Nov 2001), the first 2 weeks was sooooo bad , I had a very bad diarrhea and stomach pain , vomting , dizziness , but now I am fine , sometimes I have diarrhea but not that bad , after using metformin for a month I got a period and this was a surprise for me and I was soo happy , I hope to ovulate this month!

But if I were you , I will ask my Dr about heart fluttering , but I want to tell you my dear that by time things will be easy

GOOD LUCK
