How is your PCOS being treated?

I wanted to know what, if anything, is working for you. What medications, what dosages, etc.?

I'm taking Spironolactone twice a day and it's not doing anything. I used to take Matformin but it makes me feel sick. Either with flu symptoms or horrible stomach problems. And I can't take birth control because it makes my breasts even more uneven, which is due to another health problem I've been blessed with.

I'm hoping there has to be something out there...

And how do you handle all the body hair? It grows faster than I can remove it and I don't have the money for permanent solutions. And it only seems to be getting worse. What do you do when you want to put on a bathing suit? Or dress in something a little revealing? I feel like moving to Antarctica so I can cover myself up all the time...

Re: How is your PCOS being treated?

Basically I'm not being treated at all!! I was diagnosed about 8-9yrs ago and after a couple of visits to the drs that was it. Basically as I don't want kids they couldn't care less and I've just got on with life and put up with the symptoms. I don't wear revealing clothes anyway as I wouldn't inflict myself on the world like that - lol.

Sorry, I know that's not all that helpful but you're lucky you even got meds! I tried a low GI diet for a bit but got sick of it, but I think that's the best way staying healthy. I also used to take a handful of supplements every day - magnesium, chromium, milkthistle, saw palmetto, flaxseed, multi B vitamin, and more I'm sure! I bough a load of black cohosh I think it was called which is supposed to help balance hormones only I'm on the mini-pill and of course, don't really want those hormones balanced!! doh!

Hope your new meds work you.

Re: How is your PCOS being treated?

If that doesn't work for you, try glucaphage, the brand name of metformin, somehow, that was easier for my tummy to deal with, don't know why....

Talking Re: How is your PCOS being treated?

I found out that i had Pcos a couple of months ago. When i was younger my periods were never regular so i thought it would go away. I would only get my period 4 times a year sometimes less.
But when me and my Fiance desided to try for kids. We been trying for over 6 months and i still didn't get prego. thats how i found out i had it.
so i did some research on the internet to see if i can find any herbal remodies since i don't have insurance for meds.

i been taking Fish oil pills for 3 months now, multi vitamins and i just started taking Vitex from GNC a couple of days ago.

The fish oil has been working for me. My acne has subsided alot. I got my period last month after 6 almost 7 months of not having it. And i just stared it again ontime!!!!!!!! So i am thinking it's the fish oil that helped and probebly because i started to eat better and go mountain biking more often.

So if you are having trouble with getting your period i would try taking fish oil pills. I got them from Costco for $20 i believe.

i will let you know how the vitex works

hopefully i will be a mommy soon
