Newly diagnosed PCOS

Hi everyone. I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. I am taking Metformin 500mg twice daily. It makes me a little nauseated, but not too awefully bad. I really would like to lose some weight and hope that I can get off of this nasty medication. I've been doing a low-er carb diet due to if I eat too many carbs, I get sick since taking the metformin. I would just like to know if anyone has figured out if low carb or low cal works better for them while taking metformin. I'm getting quite frustrated about the whole weight loss thing as well as the PCOS diagnosis. Thank you in advance.
Sarah

Re: Newly diagnosed PCOS

Metformin seems to treat everyone a bit different. And PCOS in general make it hard to combat the excess weight, unfortunately. Because PCOS screw with our metabolic system, it can make sugars and starches build up and make it hard to lose weight.

Now, that being said, I've talked to others and most of them say the same as my doctor. A high-fiber, low-sugar diet, low carb usually is the best option. The fibre will keep you full and the less sugar the better, because the PCOS body just doesn't process it well. Lots of veggies and whole grains.

Personally, I find a low carb, high protein diet works the best for me on the Metformin. Fatty foods make me really sick.. as so a lot of other weird things. I hate Met.. but it does have it's benefits.
