PCOS (Metformin Questions)
 

Hi. I am currently taking Metformin for my PCOS and it makes me feel like crap! I am light-headed and dizzy sometimes and just have zero ambition. Anyone else experience this on this medication?

Hey hunn, metformin should always be taken with food. Make sure you do that for sure. I've been on it for almost 10 years it works with weight loss and controlling the sugars....pcos is crazy and there is a lot involved..I would ask about your dosage but like any new medication give it time. 1500mg is a normal dosage but mark my words eat when u take it lol

I too was light-headed and dizzy, took a few months for it to pass, but it does pass. I agree with Reeree87, I also found out that you should absolutely take it with food, LOL.

The whole issue with the Metformin is it's actually a drug for people with Diabeties* they take it with their meals instead of taking insulin to help control the pancreas...the issue with PCOS is the body thinks its not producing enough insulin so it creates more, hense the cravings for sweets and carbs etc. Metformin when taken with your meals (breaky, lunch and dinner) hps control your pancreas and keep that inder control. Another tidbit of info, if you eat healthy enough and exercise every couple days its a life saver for helping loose weight.

I am one of those people who were unfortunate enough to become insulin resistant from PCOS, hence... the Metformin.

Metforman used to make me throw up, but now that I have taken it awhile I don't react to it at all. The metforman has gotten my glucose levels down to that of a non-diabetic.

I take metformin for diabetes and when I was told to take 2,000 mg, I felt light-headed and very weak. I told the doctor I would take 1,000 mg, 500 mg in the morning with my breakfast and 500 mg with my dinner. It seems like I can tolerate this amount in my system. Best wishes to you.
