Has anyone felt panicky after having EMDR done?

Well, I just had EMDR done today..and I am feeling wicked panicky and nervous. I also keep having terrible flashbacks, and I was wondering if this was normal. I have to go back next week for another session, and I really don't want to go. I have also become easily upset for the past few days, if anyone has any advice on that please let me know. Thanks

I don't know how normal it is but I have always heard that EMDR can be riddled with complications for a lot of those women who undergo it and can sometimes be couterproductive.

I don't know if that helps.

Re: Has anyone felt panicky after having EMDR done?

i have had ptsd for about 3 years now. i was advised to undergo emdr treatment. i was very eager. as you know any hope in this arena is worth a second look at. anyway,, i did it and felt pretty darn good for about 6 hours, then it hit. the symptoms became very bad. worse then they were before. they did want me to do it again but i told them no way. its bad enough trying to live with this disease let alone making it worse. good luck. they really dont know the exact dynamics of emdr. they only know that sometimes it works

i have ptsd also but according to research, flashbacks are not negative, they help the mind accept what has happened. EMDR is probably surfacing those events again and this time you need to use cognitive behavior and tell yourself you have survived. This is your opportunity to heal what has been triggered back to memory.
