Hi I must be new

I new to this board, I am a vet with PTSD have had it for a long time. Have been in counseling for longer than I care to think about, but it does help. I have been away form the boards for some time and felt it was time to get back into them again. I all ways found a lot of useful things in working with a forum you always seem to get something back especially when you are willing to give something to others, a little bit of help or a good word go a long way some times. Hope I am at the right place.

I am 57 years old spent time in Vietnam and 20 yrs in the Air Force, I am retired and live out in the country with my wife and a dog and a couple of cats. It is nice and quite around here. That helps a lot..

Thanks
Robert

Re: Hi I must be new

I think it is time to get back to working on finding ways to deal with my PTSD and try to help others. I have been out of the loop for a long time just going it alone with my wife, a few friends, and my doc is all. I have found in the past that in helping others I some how find a few new tools for me to use in dealing (coping) with my PTSD. By trying to help others and letting them know what works for me they may find something that works for them, in return I might find something that works for me also, it is a give and take situation you pickup what you can us and leave what doesn't work for you, it may work for someone else.

Well that is whats on my mind

Re: Hi I must be new

Hi Gunner,

Welcome to the board........You are so right about helping others and you sometimes get help back. This is that place......There are 1 or 2 on here with combat related PTSD, the rest of us pretty much have abuse, or trauma related PTSD.

I hope that we can be of help to you, and you can offer some insight to us as well.

My PTSD stems from emotional, sexual, and physical abuse as a child. When I was in my 30's I met a man, and we started a relationship. I found out later that he also had PTSD from Vietnam. We lived together for 7 or 8 years. He never dealt with his PTSD, and I didn't deal with mine until I moved out. It WAS NOT a great relationship, but we managed to remain friends until I ended it last June. I feel bad about it, an almost 20 yr relationship, and I just couldn't take his negative attitude any longer...Very sad.

Again, welcome to the board...........

Sid

Dear gunner,

You are automatically initiated here. The only requirement is one post and you have done that; welcome.

How are you coping with the "day to day?"

I'm limping on hot coals myself (can't dance or hop due to injuries from a MVA).

So, how are things going with you?
