I was diagnosed with post partum depression less than a week after the birth of my son (he is now 15 months old). This seems to have transitioned into regular depression. According to the many health professionals I have spoken to, I have likely been suffering from depression most of my life, but have just never been diagnosed. As of tomorrow, my meds will consist of 150mg Effexor and 0.5 mg of Clonazapam (I'm being weaned off of Paxil, and today was my last day at 10mg).
I suppose I am just looking for a little support to get me through the rough days. Things have been quite rough lately with the latest round of med changes, but I'm hoping they get better soon.
I look forward to meeting you all.
I just wanted to give your request for support a fresh shot. Welcome. So, now that you've passed the one-year mark (the US alotted time frame for PPD)(unlike other countries who give 2 years) you are still working on the depression/postpartum or "regular".
What's been going on in the 14 1/2 months since you were diagnosed? There are probably about 25% of PPD moms who are still dealing with making their way back to the old selves after a year--you're not alone. I had it starting when dd was 9 months old.
How do you feel about their comment that you may have been dealing with depression all your life prior to this? Does that ring true for you at all? Sometimes it seems that if moms don't recover within a certain time frame, doctors are more inclined to attribute it to the client rather than diagnosis and treatment mismatch.
Anyway, I just wanted to welcome you. I hope you've been lurking some since your first post and will post again.
