my son was diagnosed as PPD + too with clear x-rays as well. What I've been told by the doctors is that once you're positive, you'll be forever positive, so you should NOT be retested ever again. The more you get tested, the worse the reaction will be on your skin. He did undergo a treatment to prevent the occurrence of tuberculosis in the future (INH)...
My Tb skin test was + and my chest x-ray was- last year. My employer teld me now that pass exacly one year thAT I have to retake every year the test because i work in a health center. Do i have to retake de tb skin test and chest x- ray again? What can i to do and tell to my employer, please, Thans
My suggestion is you go your doctor and ask him for a paper/prescription saying you are PPD + so you can show your employer. The X-rays you can retake without harm. In my son case, a medical statement that he completed the treatment was enough for his school (he never had to repeat the test). I find it weird because my father who actually had TB twice was never required to have PPD done again for working purposes. Check online your rights and discuss with your doctor your options.
Re: Can my health center employer require the annual PPD test?
Most healthcare that I know, once you are registered as POSITIVE for the skin test that all that is necessary is a NEGATIVE chest X Ray. I agree with the statements above that if you continue to try and do the skin tests, that each reaction may be worse than the previous. When I had mine, I was told NEVER to do another skin test, however, there is a blood test that can tell you for sure if you do or do not have TB.
My mother tested postive for the skin test due but negative to the blood test. They said it had probably become contaminated or irritated.
Talk to your employer but if they are in the health care then I am not sure why they would demand a skin test again if you have already tested positive. Usually they simply need a negative X ray and you are showing no s/s of active TB.
