I don't know what to do

I told my husband I want to talk to the people at the WIC office on the 23rd because I was told by several people that they might be able to help me. He told me to be careful what I tell them because they might lock me away in a mental institution or take my kids away from me. Now I don't know what to do and I'm afraid to tell them what I feel. But I know it's getting worse. I don't know what to do.

Re: I don't know what to do

You're not telling the WIC peeps all your symptoms, just that you think you may have it, and that you want to know if they have any idea where to start getting health care when you don't have insurance.

AND (especially) since you have at least your husband to be there for you/the kids, there won't be any removing the kids. IF for some reason someone thought that was the thing to do (which is highly improbable), the kids would first go to him, relatives etc. before anywhere else. He's afraid and coming up with worst case scenario.

See what comes up if you search for postpartum depression, your state. Contact any "Area Coordinator" within the state. She can offer support via telephone or email. You don't sound crazy. Your sentences and paragraphs make sense. Things will go fine. Just stick to finding out how to access mental health care when you don't have insurance. And NO you don't have any thoughts about harming yourself or the kids.

Re: I don't know what to do

Update:

My 8 week old had his appt on Friday. The doctor asked how I'm feeling and I wasn't going to say anything but it all just came out. She was referring me to a social worker but I walked out without taking the number. I didn't do it purposely. I just forgot. Soooo now I have no one to talk to still. And I really have to because it's only getting worse.

Re: I don't know what to do

Maybe you can call the Doctor's office and tell them you forgot the phone number for the social worker when you were there, and ask them to give you the contact information again. Surely they will do this-it happens all the time. Another possible resource is your county Mental Health Clinic. Post partum depression is very common (just think of all the hormonal changes you are going through), and it can be serious, so please seek help, as it is treatable and you will feel better soon and be able to enjoy your new baby.

Re: I don't know what to do

i have a 8 week old too.

the only thing the social worker will do is refer you too a therapist or psychiatrist if you need medications or counseling.

my doctor refer me too see someone because he felt i might had PPD. i see a therapist . trust me they won't take your kids away. i am still being treated for PPD and my baby lives with me. getting family and your husband too help with the baby helps also. i suggest you get help. i know how it feels to suffer from PPD
