important question

Okay hey everybody..I can't remember whether I asked this question or not a long time ago with my last post...but..

What are the chances of the EPT test I took being accurate? I had not missed a period when I took it, I just had one which was light and didn't last as long as mine normally do. I guess I'm wandering if the test may be wrong since I hadn't missed a period..one was just light..

Also, my boobs are hurting so bad, which kinda sucks because that is a symptom of pregnancy and that your period is about to start, and I'm not sure which one. I have upped a bra size in it seems like only a couple days..I went to try on bras the other day and I couldn't even snap the 34 B, so now I'm up into a 36 B bra..I don't really think I'm pregnant, but I can't be sure cause I'm not sure if the test I took would've picked anything up if I hadn't totally missed a period or been late..well any help would be appreciated! I'm hoping I'll start here in a couple days...if not, it will be time to get a new test....yikes! Thanks for listenin'! Talk 2 some people soon! ~KAT

Re: important question

Home pregnancy tests can be wrong. I know with my first son I didnt know I was pregnant because I had a test come back negative even though I had missed a period. This test was a urine test that my doctor had me do at his office. Well two weeks later I was still feeling unsure of the results and took a home one to see what it would say. It came up positive. I talked to my doctor that day and went infor a blood test and again positive. This time we figured I was 6 weeks pregnant.
So yes your test could have been wrong. The only way to figure it out is either take another home test or go to your doctor/planned parenthood and ask for a blood test. To be honest though and to truly ease your mind a blood test will be your best bet.

Re: important question

My bet is that you are probably pregnant. Congrats!!
False negatives are common with home tests, but not false positives. It picks up the presence of a hormone that is only present when you're pregnant. The first sure sign for me(I have 3 kids) was the breast thing. It's pms x 10 !! Also, another early sign is getting up at night to pee. Good luck Mom!!
P.S. I've known women to have light periods all through their pregnancy. You must have been suspicous in order to buy and take the test,<p>[This message has been edited by nailchick2000 (edited 03-13-2002).]

Re: important question

Timing is the key to these tests. What you really need to do is figure out when you had sex and make sure you take the test AT LEAST 2 - 4 weeks after. A positive sometimes will show early, mine was only 9 days past conception, but usually they say to wait 14 days after you had sex. If you have kept having sex on a regular basis after that, then it will be hard to determine. Like Whitewolf said, go to Planned Parenthood, or another clinic like that, and get a blood test done. I've been told that urine tests are very reliable (as long as done correctly and within the expiration date), it's just that a blood test can pick up HCG a few days earlier. Good luck, Katebabe. I hope everything works out.

Re: important question

OK, well how early can you take a preg. test if you're late? Can you do it as early as the first day you're late? My last period which you all know was lighter than normal was almost 28 days ago and my periods are usually exactly 28 days apart, never early, never late. So if I don't start by the end of this weekend, would taking another test be okay?

Re: important question

I took a preg. test before I missed b/c I don't have a normal day to start and the test came back neg. I took another one the next week..it came back neg...then I took one the next week and got a dark line and sure enough I was preg. One way I kinda knew I was preg. is my boobs grew really fast. They have done this in both of my preg. The first time I went from a 34 D to a 36 F in 3 weeks...this time I went from a 34 DD to a 36 G in 3 weeks. I know some people have gradual breast growth in the preg. but mine grow fast and then stop. It could be a sign of preg. I would take the test again b/c taking it too early can cause a false neg. I have found at about day 35-40 the tests are pretty accurate. Maybe you should look up the number to a free clinic and see if they will give you a blood test. You probably will need help from the clinic anyway if you are preg. Just don't wait to find out any longer than you have too b/c if you are preg. the first few weeks are important in the babies development. You need to be sure to get good care. Maybe talking to your parents now would be a good idea.

Re: important question

Katbabe1987, my dh and i have been married for 2 years but have known each other for 13 years and have now been trying for a year to get pregnant and still no luck, i just wish that we had your " problem " to deal with, wondering if i was pregnant would be the greatest time in our lives. We will be starting testing soon and with our situation ( husband is a truck driver ) if we can't get pregnant we will probably try the adoption route which is an option that we are both comfortable with since it is all around us with family and friends adopting! I guess good luck to you in whatever the outcome is! I hope that you can be happy if you are pregnant and that you take care of yourself and that little bundle of joy that might be growing inside of you! Kristin

Re: important question

Katebabe..I do not believe the abortions are free. I looked into it when I first found out about this baby b/c I was so upset that my birth control didn't work. Then hubby settled me down and I realized how dumb I was being. I do believe all prenatal care and preg. tests are free but abortions are not. They would rather help you deliever a healthy baby that could be adopted than kill the baby. But I may be wrong. I just know here in MS they aren't free. For an abortion you are looking at $300-$400 for the D&C and $500 for the abortion pill which ever way you decided to go. As for the hpt I used Fact Plus and it gave me the right result. I have used EPT and First Response and they were not as acurate..but I think all in all the tests are the same. I think it matters on when you take them not on the test.

Re: important question

I was just telling you what I know about that place. My stepmom qualified for Medicaid and went to a reg. doc and the medicaid paid for everything. Even if you live with your parents I believe you can qualify. My dad has a good job but my stepmom doesn't work so they gave it to her. Your parents would have to apply you for it but it is an answer. Another place you can try is the local health department. I personally, have never been here b/c I have heard bad things..but never having gone here I don't know if they are true. Looking into the Medicaid thing is a good idea and you should try it too. I do believe blood tests are free at Planned parenthood. I know you don't have much money but I found a womens clinic here that does blood tests for $35. Have you talked to your parents about this yet??

Re: important question

Medicaid is a gov't. program like welfare but they pay your medical bills and you can go to a normal doc in a hospital. It is for people who don't have the money to afford insurance or can't pay medical bills. It is extremely easy for preg. women to get it but first you have to confirm you are preg. The good thing about this is your baby could also recieve it and they will pay for all the shots and routine and sick baby visits. I know a lot of people look down on gov't. assistance but it is there to help people who can't afford the basic things. Plus, if you are on Medicaid you can get WIC which would give you formula and other stuff that I don't know if anyone actually uses. I see this as analternative to the Health Department which tends to be overcrowded and busy. I was just pointing out that this is an option and you can see a reg. doc in a reg. doc's office..which most people feel better about doing. I agree you need to figure out if you are before you tell your parents..but maybe they could help you get a test at a doc and if you aren't birth control. Suprisingly parents don't act they way you think they will. My sister in law got preg. before she got married and freaked out and didn't want to tell her parents b/c her dad was a preacher...but she told her mom and her mopm was okwith it and just said they needed to move up the wedding day. They had been planning her wedding when she found out she was preg. Maybe talking to them would take a lot of this stress off of you.
