High HCG levels and down syndrome????

Does high HCG levels indicate a possiblility of down syndrome? I read this in another post, but I was wondering if anyone had any information on this??!! Thanks in advance, Renee.

Re: High HCG levels and down syndrome????

High levels could indicate down syndrome but usually it means that either your due date is off or you are carrying multiples.

The only thing that can 100% rule out down syndrome is an amnio. Even the triple screen has an 80% failure rate and shows false positives for downs.

It can be an indicator as DS ~ but usually later on in a PG once the levels have hit a peak. The early weeks are more often because of multiples or your dates being slightly wrong. Even a couple of days can make a big difference.

Re: High HCG levels and down syndrome????

I have just been reading about this is my magazine for you. They say that there are not actually 'normal' levels this early in a Pregnancy. The only time you need to worry is if the numbers are not icreasing very fast. They will peak at about 10 - 12 weeks when they should be at around 300,000!!!

Your figures are rising beautifully. This shows a strong, healthy Pregnancy. Congratulations!!!!

Thank you so much Amanda for the helpful information. I just worry. I don't mind multiples, but I hope and pray that the baby(ies) is/are healthy. I thought my levels were a little high for the dpo, but maybe not?! After all, I did take Clomid to conceive this baby. That may have something to do with how high my levels are??!! Thank you so much for your help. (((HUGS))) Renee.
