I found out last week that I am expecting, due end of March 2005.
Only problem is, i had no idea i was pregnant! I was on the pill and have only had sex once in the last 3 months (thats all it takes though right!)
Not saying im not happy about it, am shocked, but happy!
Im just worried, as I had no idea I was pregnant, i continued to drink. I havent drunk in the last 4 weeks, but the 5 weeks before that I did. Now Im terrified ive done damage and my baby is going to in some way be affected.
I'm not sure how much drinking will affect the baby, but I'd definitely be very honest with your doctor/midwife about it. If there are any tests to run, I'm sure they'll know which ones. If there aren't any tests - it's still very important for them to know. The main thing is to take care of the baby from here on out, via prenatal vitamins, good prenatal Dr's care, etc.
I believe I read that the baby is protected from alcohol in the very early stages of pregnancy. I am not sure how, but you can look it up. I don't think you should worry. Most of my friends who got pregnant when they were younger, either didn't realize, or were in denial for several months, and continued to drink, all had perfect babies. Also, remember that not long ago, alcohol was not even recognized as dangerous to the fetus, and many mothers drank throughout their pregnancies, and many were encouraged to drink beer to "help their milk come in". Seriously, I have heard older people say this within the past few years. That said, you have quit drinking already, and obviously are not going to continue. So, get checked out, but don't worry. My unprofessional opinion is that the chances of any damage being done is ZERO!
I didn't know I was pg with my son and I got totally wasted one night early in my pg. I was so concerned throughout, but I talked to my doc and he said exactly what the earlier poster said about damage not being done to the baby early. The most damage is done from about week 10-2nd trimester when everything is forming and everything is passed through the placenta. Don't worry too much! My son is perfect from head to toe.
The way to love anything is to realize that it might be lost
When I was pregnant with my first child, I had been on the pill and I got my period for the first three months of my pregnancy so I never suspected I was pregnant. I'm not a big drinker or anything but over that time I did have several drinks on a few different occasions. I was horrified by this fact when I found out that I was pregnant and my doctor also assured me not to worry about it at all, just take care of myself from there on in.
I am happy to say my son is now a very health and happy 5 year old!!!!!
