Methotrexate and hcg levels rising?

Hello

I was recently diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy on Wed (aug 25th). I had a shot of Methotrexate at that time. My Beta levels were 1440 then. I went to get my levels checked again Sat Aug 28th. At that point they had risen to 3751. I went to the hospital again to have another ultrasound and more beta tests the next day (sunday aug 29th). My beta was 3854 - up again a bit. My ultrasound indicated that nothing much had changed, the sac was still there.

Since I had been going to the emerg dept. I have seen about 13 different doctors, residences etc over a period of 4 days in and out of the hospital. I will be contacting my regular doctor tomorrow.
However, I want to know if it is normal that my hcg's are rising. As far as I have read it's okay; just thought I might get some more confirmation here.

Thanks
steph

Re: Methotrexate and hcg levels rising?

I have a friend who had what they call "persistant ectopic pregnancy" which caused her levels to continue rising after methotrexate. They did regular u/s on her and the tube wasn't clearing, sometimes the methotrexate just doesn't work. She eventually had to have surgery to remove it.

How many weeks would you be now? I would definitely ask my regular doctor and insist on more beta's and u/s, because you don't want to run the risk of rupture if it is a persistant ectopic. If your levels keep rising and nothing changes on u/s, you may need surgery soon to save your tube.

Best wishes, you're in my thoughts. I know an ectopic is a terrible ordeal.
