Greetings to you all,
I'm a soon-to-be father,
and my girlfriend is 5 months pregnant...
I was just wondering if anyone on here could provide me
with any information on a slight problem she seems to be
experiencing. From time to time, she goes through a phase
of semi-violent shaking/shivers. To my knowledge, only when
she sleeps, or is near sleep. We just had an episode of
them, and I managed to calm her down enough to get them to stop.
She says that she can not stop them herself, and that after
they're over, she feels "like she just ran twelve miles". That's something
that I know epileptics experience, but these shakes/shivers are much
more mild than anything I've seen an epileptic (my brother, for one) experience...They didn't start until she was pregnant, and actually only in the past few weeks...To my knowledge she has them about 2-3 times a week.
I would appreciate any information or help regarding this topic, as it is quite scary. This is our first child, and we would *really* like to know what is going on. Thank you in advance,
maybe just fluxuating hormones, but she needs to talk to her dr at her next appt.....
i know alot of women (myself included) had/has body temp changes all the time during pregnancy......one min. you are cold then you are hot.
but i know that hormones have alot to do with it.....but she may need to ask the dr.
congrats on the baby!
The changing hormones could be causing the problem. I know that when my mother was pregnant with me she had seizures. I was her first pregnancy and she had like three of them during the pregnancy. She never had another after she had me.
I do agree that she does need to talk to her doctor and get this checked out.

imo it sounds like a panic attack thing to me. i have gotten that and do get that when i have a bad panic attack, and it tends to happen at night when its dark, not sure if thats why she gets it. i doubt it is epilepsy, i got this when i was pregnant because deep down i was very nervous about what was happening and what was going to happen to me. it could be described as when you get really cold and shiver and cant stop it and the legs shake really bad....good luck!
I get this and suffer horrendous panic attacks subsequently as I do not understand why it is happening to my body and my partner works nights so am usually on my own when this occurs. If anyone else has any idea as to what might cause this shaking, please let me know. It is often 2-3 times a week as I am about to drop off to sleep. I am 25weeks + 3days pregnant. This has just happened again around an hour ago and now I am still in a state of panic... I just want to sleep. Please help.
I have no clue what would be causing the shaking, but please, call your doctor's ASAP and make an appointment. I would not wait until your next appointment, make one right away. It could be something rather normal or it could be something quite dangerous. Don't wait, please call right away.
