I was watching a program today and they mentioned the sevre headache some people get with an epidural, i was wondering if anyone has it it or knows anyone who has had the headache?
Wondered how bad it really was and how long it lasts?
Also is a rare or rather common?
A friend of mine had it and they can do something that can take the headache away right away, not sure what exactly. I think it is fairly uncommon because I have only known of one person getting it in all the people I know. I had an epidural and had no problems at all, it felt like I had a bruise on my back where the epidural had been for about a week after but only when I'd lean up against something hard. But I guess anytime you get a needle you can bruise. So that is normal.
They do a blood patch, where they take a sample of your blood and then have to do another procedure like an epidural which gets rid of it.
I just wondered how sevre it was, and when it came about?
I mean is the women still in hospital when the epidural headache starts? would hate to have to travel in a car all the way back to my hospital which is a hour away with a headache like that!
MOst women that I know have only gotten headaches from getting a spinal block, where the meds are pushed in all in one dose, unlike the epidural that is a drip like thing. Most of them, the headaches came and went for up to a year. I think every case is diffrent. Personally, I haven't experienced any headaches from an epidural. I have yet to have one for labor and delivery but have had them in the past for other procedures. GOod luck
I had the epidural headache after my 2nd child & it was SOOOOOOO bad (20 times worse than a migraine). I had it for 4 days straight to the point I could not lift my head. I ended up going back to the hospital & they put another epidural in my back while they pumped 10cc's of blood out of my arm. It was extremely painful but I was willing to do ANYTHING it took to make the headache go away. After every 1cc your body tenses up & you have to tell the doc. so they can stop & wait for your body to relax. They told me the problem was the hole in my spine from the epidural did not fill back up with blood like it was supposed to causing the headaches. I feel for anyone that has to go through that. That was with my 2nd child & because of that I now have to be put to sleep for my c-sections instead of the epidural method.
I didn't have a headache after my epidural but I did have the worst headache of my entire life after I had a spinal tap. All I wanted to do was lay down but it hurt soooo much worse if I did. And painkillers didnt make it go away.
