I suspect that I am pregnant, which was unplanned, and the thing is that I drink a lot - 3-4 days a week. I want to have the child if I am pregnant, but I am worried that I have already done irreparable damage, meaning fetal alcohol syndrome Does anyone know if it is possible to find out now, or before I give birth, if any harm is done to the baby? Or would I just have to wait until it is born? I feel so bad, and don't know if I could live with myself if my baby had birth defects that I directly caused...thanks.
hello, first of all let me say you are not alone. lots of women have drank before they knew they were pregnant.
(testing ususally isnt done till at least 12 weeks along for birth defects)
secondly, your baby is feeding off of whats called a yolk sac, the umbilical cord is not even developed yet and wont be till about 10 weeks along. there is a minimal chance that anything even got to the baby at this point.
so take your vitamins, stop driking and enjoy your preganay, your baby will be healthy, you will see!
I have to agree that everything will be fine. Everyone drinks, takes medicine, or does things before they knew they were pregnant. And since you have stopped drinking now, I think things will be just fine. Don't stress yourself too much over this. The fetus is tougher than we think. And when you go to your first dr's appt, just tell them your concern, they will be able to reassure you that everything is fine.
The doctors told me everything you do b4 10 weeks preggo doesnt really effect the baby. Ive drank also with all 4 pregnancies and everythings been fine so far. I woujldnt worry too much about it. But when you do go to the doctor tell him your concerns. Good luck.
