Hi,
It's been almost 9w since my LMP...ultrasound says the baby is 6w 4d. When would my 12 weeks be up? when the baby is 12w or do I go by my lmp? I just wanted to know so I could tell people after my 12 weeks is up.
I hope this made sense!
Thanks,
S
They go by your last menstrual period to determine how far along you are. So, if you count 12 weeks from your lmp, that's when you would be 12 weeks pregnant. It doesn't make much sense since you weren't even pregnant for the first 2 weeks, but that's how they count it. Congratulations! BTW, each trimester is 13 weeks, so after the first 13 week mark, that's typically when the chances for miscarriage are significantly reduced.
Thanks jm for your reply!
I didn't realize that the first trimester is 13 weeks! I always thought it was 12..you learn something new everyday...it's my first pregnancy (since m/c) so I love being able to come here and ask questions and someone will answer without making you look silly!
So..I only have a few more weeks to go before telling people..I have another ?...if my LMP was nov 11...would I be almost 8 or 9 weeks? It's difficult to interpret weeks. Is nov 11 week 1 or is nov 18th week 1?
Thanks again!

Pregnancy is weird, especially when it comes to weeks, months, etc. Personally, I would wait until you have successfully begun your 2nd trimester. I mean, it really depends on who you plan on telling though. But for safety sake, I would wait a bit.
If your last period began on November 11th, then November 18th would be 1 week pregnant and so forth. You would be almost 8 weeks pregnant. They also count every 4 weeks as a month, so you can say you will be 2 months this week. Technically, pregnancy is 10 months when they count it as 4 week months. That and counting pregnancy weeks before you're even pregnant are 2 strange things about how far along you are that are just generally accepted and not too analyzed since they don't make much sense anyway. Did I confuse you more?...LOL. Sorry. Congratulations!
