I had an allergic reaction and developed severe hives and angioedema and the went to the ER where i was given benadryl. I took a total of about 350mg over a course of 4 days. Im 9 weeks pregnant right now, this was about 10 days ago, so i was at the end of the 7th week when this happened. I read online about increased oral palates vs safety, and i see different things everywhere!! Im worried because cleft palate develops at the end of the 7th week, exactly when i took the benadryl. The doctors say its ok, but until i have a scan and know for sure, im going crazy. Has anyone taken benadryl at 7 weeks???
I took benadryl all through my first pregnancy because I had allergies to everything, and my son turned out great. My doctor also told me to take diphenhydramine (same active ingredient as benadryl) this pregnancy for insomnia. I am 6 months, and u/s's looked great. I think it's a pretty safe drug. I wouldn't worry so much, the beginning part of pregnancy is challenging and stressful enough, without added worries about all the stuff you did before you knew you were pregnant.
Congratulations, and good luck for a healthy and uneventful pregnancy!
anyone else have any experience with this?? im 13 weeks now and still worried about this, im waiting for 18 weeks so i can have a high resolution scan and ease my mind about it!!! Help!
Hi there! I had to come off anxiety medication when I found out I was pregnant. I spoke to several doctors (OB and psych) that told me bendryl is perfectly safe to use during pregnancy (to help me manage insomnia and other symptoms related to coming off anti-anxiety meds). From what I've heard OBs really like benadryl...
im going for the high resolution scan on tuesday and imsooooo worried, i forgot to say that i also took claritin for a week!! anyone take claritin in the first trimester???
