I am 31 weeks. Is it possible that my baby dropped? This morning I woke up to my baby punching me right above my pubic bone. I have never felt her so low before. I put my dh's hand there and we could actually feel the baby there (possibly her head?). Then I looked in the mirror this morning and you can see that she is lower. Second I have to pee more often and it is way more painful when she pokes at my bladder. The reason I am so worried is because when I asked my sister about it she said she heard that babies can drop up to 4 weeks before birth and her last child was only a week before. Does anyone know any info on this.
Thanks
Jen

I was about 32-33 weeks with my first pregnancy when I dropped, and it was very noticable, someone I had saw the day earlier even noticed. They say second or more pregnancies afterward you tend to drop sooner, so if this isn't your first that may explain it. Ask at your next OB appoinment. Oh by the way, the belly measurement at your next appointment will confirm it...if your belly is smaller than the measurement the time before, then the baby dropped into the pelvis and you have more belly room.
In my pregnancy book, it said that babies usually turn to a head down position between 32 and 36 weeks. Maybe that is what you are feeling. A head down baby feels different then what you have been use to for the past 6 months. At your next dr's appt, ask them if they would figure out the baby's position via palpation. They should be able to do it by now and it only takes a few moments. I am 31 weeks myself and my son is already head down. My doctor said "you might be feeling as if you have knives in your vagina now," because his head and elbows are positioned differently.
It's possible that your baby has dropped, except I don't know much about that since this is my first and I'm not sure what to be feeling for either.
It is possible, but like the other posters have indicated, it is the head engaging in the pelvis that happens when the baby drops, not usually the baby punching you down low. The baby probably just changed positions and is turned head down.
Is this your first baby? If so it is very possible that you have dropped but DOES NOT mean you are only 4 weeks away from delivery... Someone said that with subsequent babies you drop sooner, that is incorrect, subsequents will only drop right before labor starts if at all. Even if you have dropped I am sure everything is perfectly fine, baby is just getting comfortable... Best of luck!!
