I was just wondering when the first u/s is usually done. I will be 7 weeks when I go to the doctor next week (first visit, after blood test confirming pregnancy) I've read in some books they usually do one at 7 weeks to confirm pregnancy, yet most other people I know were in their second trimester. I just want to see the tiny fetus to know it's there and everything is ok.... I've heard of cases where there is a sac, but no baby in it. UGH.... I'm trying to remain calm, I haven't had any signs or symptoms of anything being wrong, no spotting/bleeding. Thanks for your words of wisdom!!!
I had one done at 9 weeks - when they do it that early, it's a transvaginal ultrasound. They basically have this big wand thing that they put in your vagina to do the ultrasound - but it's not uncomfortable at all, just a little weird having a big wand up your cootch! When they did mine, I could see the baby and the yolk sac - the baby was only about the size of a lima bean, but it was clearly defined - little arm & leg buds starting, big head. It was pretty cool. Good luck!
It all depends on your doctor, but I got my first one at 8 weeks (I did not have to get a transvaginal one since we could see the baby the other way) and I won't have my next until 20 weeks (and that one will be a Level 2)
most docs do one in the very beginning to confirm pg, and also at about 20wks give or take. You should get one, but like another poster said it will be vaginal. good luck
I had one around 12 weeks because we couldnt find the heartbeat, everything was okay. The second one I had was around 19 weeks when I found out the sex and I will have another around 36 weeks to determine approx size before delivery.
I got mine done at 6 weeks, but only because i was having some really bad cramping. My doctor wouldn't have done it then if it wasn't for that. She would have waited until 2nd trimester. Which we had one done then too because i was measuring to big that was at 22 weeks. I really think it depends on your doctor.
I had one at 6 weeks, then another at 7 weeks, then another at 9 weeks, then another at 12 weeks (couldn't fidn the heartbeat) then I have had abunch since then too! But I had some problems at first, obviously, all worked out though. I think most drs do them at 20 and then sometimes again towards the end to check for size. I will probably have at least two more in the next 13 weeks, because of some meds I am on. I love them! They are so great!
