Can anyone tell me why a doctor would even bother to say you are a fingertip dilated? What's a fingertip? 1/4 of a centimeter??! Just say, oh nothing's really happening yet. It just cracks me up that a doctor would even bother to say that. I guess it's better than saying your cervix isn't in position and is sealed shut, huh?
Anyway, for those of you who were told you were a "fingertip dilated", how long until you dilated some more? I know some women can walk around at a 4 and not go into labor for weeks.
Oh, and I have another question (sorry). Did any of you lose your mucous plug in bits and pieces. Sorry if this is gross, but twice yesterday when I wiped, I had this clear snotty looking stuff on the toilet paper. Could that be the plug?
I've always heard that a fully inserted fingertip equals 2 cm's. So if you are a fingertip dilated, I would take that to mean 1-2 cm's.. Which is good!!!
And I lost my mucus plug in bits and peices, although it was all during labor. At first just when I wiped, then at one point, the whole thing just came out (you will know when that happens, can't miss it!)...
Sounds like you are on your way!

I never noticed mine gone...i don't know where it went to ..but when i went to my doctors appt 2 weeks before i had my daughter i had no plug and was 2 cm dilated..was so for 2 weeks!!..so yeah u can miss it..i guess i am few of the many!!...weird i know ...they usually consider a fingertip dilation as 1 cm..one finger tip to one cm..
Ok, a fingertip is almost a cm. We tell that you are fully dil. by widening the fingers. When did you have your exam. the streaking could be cause by the irritation. If not it can come just like a discharge. Kay, Childbirth ed.& Doula and Mother of 6
